Subject: | Prohibiting the Use of Drones Over Prisons |
As you can see from the articles below, criminals are now utilizing drones to fly over prisons to drop contraband, which could include drugs and/or weapons, to prisoners in the yards of correctional facilities: http://www.cnn.com/2015/08/04/us/prison-yard-drone-drugs-ohio/ http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/08/24/2-arrested-plot-fly-contraband-into-prison-drone/32306943/ These episodes have prompted concerns across the country including here in Pennsylvania. Accordingly, I will be introducing legislation to prohibit anyone from knowingly flying a drone over a correctional facility in Pennsylvania. The legislation will be drafted narrowly to avoid penalizing someone who is using a drone and accidentally flies over a prison. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
