Subject: | Co-Sponsorship Memo - Limited breweries, wineries and distilleries reciprocal on-site product serving |
I invite your co-sponsorship of legislation permitting limited breweries, limited wineries and limited distilleries to serve each other’s product on-site. Currently, limited breweries may serve wines produced by a licensed Pennsylvania limited winery, but not spirits produced by a licensed Pennsylvania limited distillery; while Pennsylvania limited wineries and limited distilleries may not serve product from a limited brewery or from each other’s classification. Under my proposal, by way of example, visitors to Troegs brewpub in Hershey could order a glass of Dad’s Hat Rye from Bristol; tipplers at Grovedale Winery in Wyalusing could try a change of pace with a pint of Railbender Ale from Erie Brewing Company; and at the new DR Distillery in Slippery Rock, customers could enjoy a merlot from Starr Hill Winery in Curwensville. Pennsylvania limited breweries, wineries and distilleries are home grown small businesses which have become part of the fabric of communities across the Commonwealth. This legislation would simplify the current patchwork of provisions while promoting the collaboration of Pennsylvania’s craft breweries, wineries and distilleries. The bill will bolster the customer experience at these establishments by diversifying their beverage options, and will attract a more robust audience of tourists to Pennsylvania. It will also enhance the growing “buy local” movement while representing a win-win for these innovative Pennsylvania businesses. I hope you agree and will co-sponsor this legislation.
