RESOLUTION - DESIGNATING THE THIRD WEEK OF MAY 2016 AS "LOCAL COMMUNITY LEADER APPRECIATION WEEK" IN PENNSYLVANIA In the near future, I intend to introduce a resolution designating the third week of May 2016 as "Local Community Leader Appreciation Week" in Pennsylvania. During a period when violence and social unrest is seemingly widespread in our nation, one of the most vital lines of defense that our neighborhoods have at its disposal is its vast network of dedicated local community leaders. These individuals have their fingers placed squarely upon the pulse of the populace. It is also these same individuals who, through their efforts of assisting our local officials in an ancillary role, are able to make significant strides in rooting out the prevalence of blight, drug activity and the overall incidence of crime. Although the efforts of our local community leaders are oftentimes overlooked or go unheralded by the mainstream media, their overall impact and influence upon the neighborhoods that they serve speaks volumes. At a time when many of our communities are forced to do more with less, it should give us all a great deal of comfort to know that we have truly selfless individuals at the ready who want nothing more than to improve the conditions of their communities. Therefore, I am imploring my colleagues from both sides of the aisle to please join me in recognizing the third week of May 2016 as “Local Community Leader Appreciation Week” in Pennsylvania.
