Subject: | Adding Patriot Day to the List of Legal State Holidays |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation adding Patriot Day to the list of legal state holidays in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Schools would be closed and state workers would have a paid day off in honor of the thousands of innocent men, women and children who lost their lives in attacks meant to terrorize our Nation on September 11, 2001. On that fateful day terrorists hijacked four civilian aircraft, crashing two of them into the towers of the World Trade Center in New York City, and a third into the Pentagon outside Washington, D.C. The fourth hijacked aircraft crashed in southwestern Pennsylvania after passengers bravely tried to take control of the aircraft. These attacks were by far the deadliest terrorist attacks ever launched against the United States. In the aftermath of the attacks the people of the United States stood united in providing support for those in need. This new holiday will pay appropriate respect to those who sacrificed themselves on 9/11 and reaffirm our ties to each other; reminding us that no matter where we come from, what God we pray to, or what race or ethnicity we are, we are united as one American family. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
