Subject: | Rep. Cook-Artis Resolution Cosponsorship - 30th Anniversary of the Black Family Reunion Celebration |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring The Black Family Reunion Celebration (BFRC) that was started in 1986 by Dr. Dorothy Height, Chair and President Emerita of the National Council of Negro Women. The celebration focuses on the enduring strength and traditional values of the African American family. Over the span of 30 years BFRC has grown to become recognized as the largest, most significant family event in the nation. The late Barbara Daniel-Cox, a well-known event producer and public relations specialist brought BFRC to Philadelphia where it became one of the city’s most popular events and was the inspiration for the Philly International Records hit song “Family Reunion" recorded by the multi-Grammy award winning group The O'Jays. This year, there will be a Black Family Unity Celebration (BFUC) in tribute to Barbara Daniel-Cox held on Saturday, September 10th, at Belmont Grove from 11am to 5pm. The following year the event will take place at the spacious Belmont Plateau and in keeping with the original format, the celebration will feature activities for the entire family like health screening, community services, life improvement information, games, art and craft vendors, food trucks, entertainment and celebrity appearances. I ask that you please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
