Subject: | Repealing State Tax on PA Lottery Winnings |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation that will repeal the newly established state tax on PA Lottery winnings. As many of you are aware, this is the first time since Pennsylvania introduced a state lottery in 1972 that cash winnings will be taxed. Added as part of this past year’s state budget, this new measure subject’s Lottery winnings to the state’s 3.07 percent state personal income tax on top of the federal taxes that have always been collected. I believe that this new tax is just another example of burdening the working class citizen. With so many of our constituents urging lawmakers across the country to honor pledges such as the ‘taxpayer protection pledge’ and the ‘no new taxes pledge,’ I think this new tax is unnecessary, unwanted and should be repealed. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
