Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Resolution recognizing the month of October 2016 as “Head Start Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania |
In the coming days, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing the month of October 2016 as “Head Start Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Head Start programs have provided comprehensive child development and family support services to promote the school readiness of low-income infants, toddlers, and pre-school aged children for over 50 years. Children participating in Head Start engage in daily instruction, age-appropriate activities and expanded early learning initiatives keeping with the Commonwealth’s educational standards. The Pennsylvania Head Start Association advocates on behalf of Head Start and Early Head Start programs for the benefit of children and families in our Commonwealth. State funding is used to ensure continuity of care in this Commonwealth by providing for the Head Start enrollment of nearly 5,000 children from ages 3 to 4 years. Ultimately, early exposure to education for children positions them for future academic success moving forward. With that said, if is my belief that the Commonwealth should recognize and support children and their families with programs that invest in comprehensive child development. As such, it is with these reasons in mind and more that I am offering this Resolution.
