Subject: | Other Tobacco Products Tax |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to impose a tax on other tobacco products, including smokeless tobacco, loose tobacco and cigars. The legislation will levy a tax of $0.36 per ounce on smokeless and loose tobacco and a tax of $0.36 per ten sticks on cigars. The proposal does not include an increase of the current tax levied on cigarettes. Pennsylvania remains the only state that does not tax smokeless tobacco, and one of only two that don’t tax cigars. More importantly, I believe recent legal proceedings related to the Master Settlement Agreement and payments to the Commonwealth’s Tobacco Settlement Fund require us to take a close look at Pennsylvania’s tobacco tax policy. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Previous cosponsors were SCHWANK, BLAKE, WOZNIAK, STACK, LEACH, COSTA, WILEY, FARNESE, VANCE AND TARTAGLIONE. |
