Subject: | Marriage Law Co-sponsorship Memo |
Over the course of the next several weeks I intend to introduce legislation that would amend Title 23 (Domestic Relations) to repeal the current three day waiting period to receive a marriage license. The original intent behind this waiting period was to allow time for blood test results during a time when such tests were required by the Board of Medical Examiners. Required blood tests have since been eliminated, yet the three day waiting period remains, posing an inconvenience to marriage license applicants. Twenty nine other states have no waiting period to receive a marriage license. Should you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Matt Parido (mparido@pasen.gov). |
