Subject: | Providing a Sales and Use Tax Exclusion for Timber Operations |
In the near future, I intend to introduce legislation that would provide for a sales and use tax exclusion for commercial timber and logging operations. From tractors to feed, silos to fertilizers, other farming and agriculture operations receive sales and use tax exclusions for many aspects of their industry. This allows them to thrive and provide more for the people of Pennsylvania. Unfortunately, the timber and logging industry, which is often considered a form of agriculture, is not eligible for the same sales and use tax exclusions but would certainly benefit from such. This legislation would reform the tax code to allow for the timber and logging industry to claim a sales and use tax exclusion on machinery and equipment in the same way other agricultural industries have been able to do across the state. The timber industry is vital to Pennsylvania’s economy and supports over 60,000 stable, good paying jobs to people of the commonwealth. This legislation would help grow and sustain this important Pennsylvania industry. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this important legislation.
