Subject: | Financial Literacy Month - April 2015 |
I intend to introduce a resolution recognizing April 2015 as “Financial Literacy Month.” Sound economic practices are best formed in the childhood years. Financial literacy is critical in assisting our young people to avoid poor financial management choices, which can haunt them for years. It is linked to lower delinquency rates for mortgage borrowers, better utilization of retirement plans, improved spending and saving habits and increased net worth. Pennsylvanians of all ages can benefit from sound financial literacy. This resolution encourages legislators, employers, schools and community organizations to work with groups such as Economics Pennsylvania, the largest non-profit economic and financial literacy organization in the Commonwealth, to provide outreach and education. Prior sponsors of this resolution include: Pileggi, Browne, Costa, Hughes, White, Vulakovich, Rafferty, Folmer, Yudichak, Alloway, Hutchinson, Teplitz, Greenleaf, Dinniman, Fontana, Smith and Farnese. Please join me in recognizing the importance of this crucial piece of the educational puzzle by recognizing April 2015 as “Financial Literacy Month.” |
