Subject: | Ban State Funded Travel to Indiana |
In the near future, I will introduce a bill to ban state funded travel from Pennsylvania to Indiana, in light of its recent passage of the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. Indiana's new law purports to expand the rights of some while seriously infringing upon the rights of others. This law authorizes private businesses to discriminate in order to freely exercise religion. Meanwhile as one group practices religion, many other groups are discriminated against legally. This new law is entirely reprehensible because discrimination cannot be legalized within this country. It is clear that minority groups, namely the Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender community, will be disproportionately affected. Several large companies based in Indiana have already expressed their concern. A few states and municipalities have already indicated that they too intend to ban government funded travel to Indiana. Pennsylvania must also unite and express our outrage against this law by also banning state funded travel to Indiana. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
