Subject: | Resolution – Honoring the 250th Anniversary of the Village of Linglestown |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a resolution honoring the 250th anniversary of the Village of Linglestown. Linglestown was founded in 1765 by Thomas Lingle who originally called it “The Town of St. Thomas" honoring his namesake. Following Lingle’s death in 1811, the residents began calling the village "Lingle's Town," which would eventually come to be known as Linglestown. The village quickly became a center for commerce, as well as for civic, religious, and educational activities. Linglestown continues to be a vibrant community today. The year 2015 marks the 250th anniversary of the founding of Linglestown. A celebration of this historical event will be held from October 9th through October 11th and will include a parade, the burial of a time capsule, church services, walking tours, re-enactments of historical events, a 5K race, crafts and demonstrations, a flower show, live music and fireworks. I hope you will join me in honoring the history, the achievements, and the people of the Village of Linglestown by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
