Session of 2015 - 2016 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 3, 2015 02:23 PM
From: Senator Andrew E. Dinniman
To: All Senate members
Subject: Oath of Office

I will soon offer an amendment to the Constitution of the Commonwealth to add to the oath we take as elected officials the words “I have read the Constitution upon which I take my oath.” I know that you believe, as I do, in the importance of the Constitutional oath we and others take at all levels of government to affirm allegiance to the Constitution of the United States and/or the Commonwealth. We also know that some who take the oath may not have read one or both Constitutions. My amendment to add these words is an affirmation of the importance of the Constitutional government upon which our Nation and Commonwealth is based.

I hope you will join me in sponsoring this amendment.

Introduced as SB940
