Subject: | Public Safety Initiative Grants |
In the near future, I will introduce legislation to amend Pennsylvania’s Gaming Law. The legislation establishes a public safety initiative grant program for small cities. As you many of you are aware, Pennsylvania’s smaller cities continue to be plagued by crime and public safety issues. Due to budget constraints, many of our smaller cities lack the resources to institute desperately needed public safety programs and other law enforcement initiatives. I believe it is time for the Commonwealth to aid our cities and provide additional funding to help establish special law enforcement programs that promote public safety and combat crime. The bill provides funding for public safety initiative grants through an annual transfer of $3 million annually from the State Gaming Fund. The grants will be awarded by the Gaming Board to local law enforcement agencies in eligible cities. Under the bill, grant eligibility is limited to cities of the Second Class A and cities of the Third Class. Please join me in co-sponsoring this important legislation. If you have questions about the legislation, please contact my office at 717-787-5400. |
