Subject: | Juvenile Justice Week |
I will soon introduce a resolution to designate the week of October 4 - 10, 2015 as Juvenile Justice Week in Pennsylvania. The mission of Pennsylvania's Juvenile Justice System is based on the principles of restorative justice, which gives priority to repairing the harm done to crime victims and communities and defines offender accountability in terms of assuming responsibility and taking action to repair that harm. Programs provided through Pennsylvania's Juvenile Justice System provide balanced attention to the protection of our communities, the imposition of accountability for offenses and the development of competencies to enable children within the system to become responsible and productive members of their communities. Counties throughout the Commonwealth sponsor annual Juvenile Justice Week activities to strengthen public understanding of this system and pay tribute to those who are part of it. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this resolution and recognizing the work of Pennsylvania's juvenile justice system. |
