Subject: | Interstate Medical Licensure Compact Legislation |
I plan to introduce legislation focused on the importance of allowing eligible licensed physicians in one state to treat patients in other states via telemedicine. Specifically, this legislation would permit Pennsylvania to join the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact, which has been spearheaded by the Federation of State Medical Boards. The terms of the compact will be administered and enforced by an interstate commission, which would grant an expedited license to an eligible licensed physician in one state to practice medicine in another state. The practice of medicine would follow the medical laws and regulations in the state the patient is residing, not the physician’s. Joining the compact would increase medical access to Pennsylvanians in underserved areas, and connect individuals with serious illnesses to specialists in the field. Currently, sixteen states have opted into this compact, including West Virginia; and ten others have introduced authorizing legislation. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. |
