Subject: | Increasing Per Mile Amount of Annual Maintenance Payments |
In the near future, I plan to re-introduce House Bill 2123 of the 2015-16 legislative session which amends Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated Statutes to increase the annual maintenance payment rate allocated to municipalities from the State Highway Transfer Restoration Restricted Account. My bill would increase the annual maintenance payments from the rate of $4,000 per mile to $6,000 per mile. Additionally, this amount would be adjusted annually for inflation based on the Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers for the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland area as determined by the United States Department of Labor. The current rate was established in 2006 and is inadequate to cover the actual expenses involved in the maintenance of highways throughout municipalities. Increasing the rate and providing for annual adjustments ensures that municipalities have the resources to properly maintain their highways. Therefore, I respectfully ask for your support and co-sponsorship. |
