Subject: | Welfare Prohibition for Convicted Drug Traffickers |
In the very near future, I will be offering legislation that will prevent those convicted of drug distribution crimes from receiving welfare benefits. Often, when individuals are arrested for drug trafficking crimes, a subsequent search reveals large sums of money and information indicating that the individual was receiving welfare benefits. The purpose for this legislation is to prevent those who abuse the welfare system from taking resources away from those truly in need. I respectfully ask for your support in co-sponsoring this legislation. This legislation (as H.B. 222) passed the House last session with a vote of 170-20 but was not considered in the Senate. I look forward to working with you to get this legislation passed during this new session. PRIOR CO-SPONSORS: SACCONE, BAKER, PICKETT, MILLARD, BARRAR, LONGIETTI, JAMES, REESE, BOBACK, D.
