House of Representatives
Session of 2017 - 2018 Regular Session

MEMORANDUM

Posted: December 14, 2016 10:29 AM
From: Representative Ryan A. Bizzarro
To: All House members
Subject: Board Compensation Prohibition (Former House Bill 1981)

In the near future, I plan to reintroduce House Bill 1981 of the 2015-16 legislative session which would prohibit public officials and employees from receiving compensation, not including reimbursement for actual and necessary expenses, for serving on a corporate or nonprofit board.

Unfortunately, the growing influence of money in elections and government has made the wealthiest voices the most influential to government officials. The extent to which special interests have become entrenched in Pennsylvania politics is one of the primary reasons the legislature has faced extreme difficulty in reaching compromises during prior state budgets.

I believe public servants have an obligation to ensure that they are responsive to the needs of their constituency rather than the influence of special interests. Therefore, please consider co-sponsoring this important legislation which will improve transparency and return the control of politics and state government back to the people of Pennsylvania.

Introduced as HB869
