Subject: | Enforcement of Expectant Mother Parking Spaces |
In the near future I plan to introduce legislation to provide the necessary legal backing for the enforcement of parking spaces reserved for expectant mothers and parents of small children in this Commonwealth. Currently, entities in Pennsylvania may reserve certain parking spaces for mothers who are expecting a child and, parents with small children. The goal is to ease the burden of mothers who are currently pregnant as well as provide an additional safety measure for parents with small children. However, these types of parking spaces are easily abused and those in violation do not suffer actual consequences. This legislation is modeled on the system in place for the enforcement of parking spots for disabled individuals. Expectant mothers and parents of small children who meet the qualifications will be provided with a placard to hang in their vehicle to verify that they are permitted to park in the designated spots. If an individual is parked in a designated spot without a placard, they are subject to a fine and towing. The legislation does not require the reservation of these parking spots, but under this legislation if an entity chooses to offer the spaces it will be enforceable by law. Please join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact Lori Nissly at (717) 783-1673 or lnissly@pahousegop.com. |
