Subject: | Police Vehicle Accident Reports for Fire Company Insurance Billing |
In the near future, I plan to introduce legislation to help our volunteer fire companies, who struggle financially to provide a very necessary service. Under current law, vehicle accident reports conducted by local and State Police are furnished for a fee or to certain individuals or entities. In the case of a PA State Police report, a fee of $22 per copy is required to be submitted by the requesting party. My proposal will exempt volunteer fire companies from the payment of this fee. For municipal police accident reports, current law restricts the furnishing of these reports to the following entities: A person involved in the accident and the person’s attorney or insurer The Federal Government Branches of the military service Commonwealth agencies Officials of political subdivisions Agencies of other states and nations and the political subdivisions of other states and nations My legislation adds volunteer fire companies to the list above, which will go a long way in assisting fire companies that bill insurance companies for real and actual costs of responding to vehicle accidents; a means of recouping some of the costs associated with responding to traffic incidents. Please consider joining me in sponsoring this legislation. |
