Subject: | Resolution Recognizing International Holocaust Remembrance Day |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution recognizing January 27, 2017, as “International Holocaust Remembrance Day” in Pennsylvania. The genocide of the Holocaust resulted in the deaths of about six million European Jews as well as millions of others by Germany’s Nazi regime. January 27 was designated as “International Holocaust Remembrance Day” by the United Nations General Assembly because that was the day in 1945 that the largest Nazi concentration camp (Auschwitz-Birkenau) was liberated by Soviet troops. This day is recognized each year to honor Holocaust victims and educate people about the history of the Holocaust to help prevent future acts of genocide. I hope you will join me in supporting this important resolution. |
