MEMORANDUM

Subject: Turnpike Discount for Active and Veteran Military Personnel

In the near future, I will be re-introducing legislation from last session (House Bill 2395) that would honor our active duty and veteran military personnel by reducing or eliminating the cost of using the Pennsylvania Turnpike.

This legislation would provide that active duty military personnel be granted free use of the Pennsylvania Turnpike through the EZ Pass system. In addition, veterans would be eligible to receive a 50 percent discount on toll rates through the EZ Pass system.

In order to qualify, active duty and veteran military personnel would be required to:
  • Be a resident of Pennsylvania.
  • Have a valid EZ Pass account.
  • Submit a commission-approved application for approval by the Turnpike Commission.
  • Submit documentation proving their active duty or veteran status.
  • Sign a statement stating that they will not be involved in any fraudulent activity regarding their EZ Pass.

Several states already provide this type of benefit to veterans. Please join me sponsoring this legislation and in adding Pennsylvania to that list of states that seek to further honor our veterans and active military personnel for their service to our country.
