Subject: | Legislation Increasing the Maximum Fine for Littering |
In the near future, I intend to reintroduce House Bill 102 from the 2015-16 legislative session. My bill would amend Title 75 (Vehicles) to increase the fines for littering on Pennsylvania roads. The bill also requires using a portion of those new proceeds to pay for signs alerting drivers of the increased fines. Specifically, my legislation would increase the maximum amount of each fine detailed in Section 3709 by $200 so that fines could range from $500 to $1,100, depending on where the littering occurred. Five percent of the money allocated to the Department of Transportation from these fines will be used for signs advising drivers of the increased amounts, hopefully acting as a further deterrent to littering. Please join me in supporting legislation that preserves the beauty of Pennsylvania by raising public awareness of and increasing the penalties for littering. |
