MEMORANDUM

Posted: March 7, 2017 12:35 PM
From: Representative Thomas P. Murt
To: All House members
Subject: Designating May 1, 2017 as “The Battle of the Crooked Billet Day”

I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 1, 2017 as “The Battle of the Crooked Billet Day” in Pennsylvania.

The Billet is the area known today as Hatboro, Montgomery County. This battle involved the British who were in control of Philadelphia, and the American Militia consisting of 300 militiamen encamped at The Billet under leadership of Brigadier General John Lacey. The British mission was to stop the American Militia from disrupting the British supply lines into Philadelphia.

This resolution honors the men of the Pennsylvania Militia for their heroism, and specifically for those men who paid the ultimate sacrifice during The Battle of the Crooked Billet on May 1, 1778. It also honors General Lacey for his brilliant leadership during the battle.

Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution.
