Subject: | Designating May 23, 2017 as “Teacher Education Day” |
In the near future, we plan to introduce a resolution designating May 23, 2017, as “Teacher Education Day” in Pennsylvania. This resolution will recognize the outstanding service of teacher educators who prepare teachers for this Commonwealth’s classrooms. The purpose of preparing teachers for their profession is a noble and exceptionally important endeavor, as it indirectly impacts the lives of all students. Indeed, the value of teacher educators is validated by Pennsylvania’s distinguished history and tradition of producing high quality teachers. Teacher educators play an indispensable role in fostering the development of student teachers and teachers and improving the quality of the educator workforce. These dedicated individuals help all teacher candidates and other school personnel to positively impact student learning. Teacher educators prepare, supervise, observe and evaluate teaching candidates and help such individuals achieve their fullest potential in the classroom. Student teachers gain essential experience through exposure to a wide variety of instructional opportunities, which include working with diverse groups of students and observing talented educators in a classroom setting. The foundational role teacher educators play in the education of this Commonwealth’s teachers is vital to the ultimate, successful education of our children. Please join us in co-sponsoring this resolution to honor this Commonwealth’s teacher educators. |
