Subject: | Resolution Honoring the 250th anniversary of St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in New Kingstown, Cumberland County and the 500th Anniversary of the Protestant Reformation Advanced by German Theologian Martin Luther. |
In the near future, I will be introducing a Resolution to honor the 250th anniversary of St. Stephen Evangelical Luther Church, Cumberland County, which coincides with the 500th anniversary of the Protestant Reformation. St. Stephen Evangelical Luther Church, located in New Kingstown in Cumberland County, has established close ties with the local and regional community and has affirmed many of the practices and foundational documents introduced by 16th century Protestant reformers. Early German settlers founded the Cumberland County church and a meeting house was constructed in 1774, recording the first baptism in 1775 and the first communion in 1789. After a devastating fire, the congregation dedicated a new church in September of 1912. Martin Luther, a theology professor and ordained priest, led the European movement in 1517 by breaking with Roman Catholic Church on the late-medieval sale of indulgences and attaining fundamental unity, transforming western religion. Please join me in recognizing the St. Stephen Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cumberland County and the Protestant Reformation. Thank you. |
