Subject: | COSPONSOR MEMO - ELIMINATING $2 DUPLICATE REGISTRATION FEE FROM ONLINE VEHICLE RENEWALS |
Dear Colleagues – In the near future, I will introduce legislation eliminating the $2 duplicate registration fee from online vehicle registration renewals. In the past, annual vehicle registration was accomplished through the mail. If you wanted or needed an additional registration credential, a $2 fee was assessed for the additional cost of generating a second credential. Today, a motorist can renew their registration online. With the license plate sticker requirement having been eliminated, online registration has changed so that you can print your own credential. There is nothing stopping anyone from printing out an unlimited number of registration credentials – literally, you just hit print as many times as necessary, and print out as many credentials as you need on your home printer. There is no way to for PennDOT to know how many times you hit the print button, and as a result, there is no need to suggest online that one needs to pay an additional $2 to “generate” a second credential. I would appreciate your support of this initiative. |
