Subject: | Resolution: Condemning the Rollback of Birth Control Coverage Requirements |
In the near future, I will be introducing a resolution condemning the Trump Administration's rollback of birth control coverage requirements under the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA). As you know, the ACA required employer-sponsored health insurance policies to cover methods of contraception approved by the Food and Drug Administration without cost-sharing requirements. The rollback, announced by the Trump Administration on October 6, 2017, allows any employer to opt-out of providing this coverage in their health plans based on religious beliefs or moral convictions. Advocacy groups and state officials across the country, including Attorney General Josh Shapiro, have filed suit against the Trump Administration over this rule. Given the 55 million women who have benefited from expanded access to birth control, including 2.5 million women in Pennsylvania, it is imperative that we also express our disapproval of this decision. Therefore, I ask that you join me co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
