Subject: | Designating April 15, 2018 as “Jackie Robinson Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution honoring the lifetime achievements and lasting influence of Jackie Robinson. On April 15, 1947, Robinson became the first African American to play for a major league baseball team, being named Rookie of the Year. Over the course of his career, he also earned recognition as the first African American to win a batting title, lead the league in stolen bases, play in an All-Star game, play in the World Series, win an MVP award, and be elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame. To honor his achievements, Major League Baseball retired his number, #42. This resolution would set aside April 15, 2018 as “Jackie Robinson Day” to honor his lifetime achievements and lasting influence |
