Subject: | Co-Sponsorship: Recognizing May 2018 as “Asthma Awareness Month” |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing the month of May 2018 as “Asthma Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Asthma is a chronic lung disease that significantly affects the lives of more than 955,000 adults and more than 269,000 children in Pennsylvania. Asthma inflames and narrows the airways, causing recurring periods of wheezing, chest tightness, shortness of breath, and coughing. These symptoms can be triggered by a variety of environmental factors and require proper management to avoid asthma attacks that may necessitate emergency medical intervention or even become fatal. Asthma is a long-term disease with no cure, however, proper management techniques and education allow individuals with asthma to lead very successful and active lives. As such, it is imperative that we help foster greater awareness of asthma and aid in efforts to reduce the prevalence of this disease and protect the health of Pennsylvanians. Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact my office at 717-772-2004. |
