Subject: | Co-sponsorship of Legislation - Tax Credit for the Purchase of Classroom Supplies |
In the near future, I plan to reintroduce legislation (House Bill 86 of the 2015-2016 Legislative Session) that amends the Tax Reform Code, providing a tax credit to teachers for the purchase of classroom supplies. Pennsylvania employs approximately 4,000 teachers. On average, teachers spend $450 a year of their own money to supply their students with not only classroom, but out of classroom supplies. Though state funding for K-12 education has increased in recent state budgets, Pennsylvania ranks 46th in the nation regarding state’s share of K-12 education funding. Many teachers resulted in GofundMe.com accounts and various classroom supply campaigns to assist K-12 teachers. This legislation provides a tax credit of up to $250 for teachers who purchase out-of-pocket classroom supplies. Eligible classroom supplies include books, supplies, computers and related equipment, including related software and services, other equipment and supplementary materials. It is important we continue to support teachers, as they are invaluable to our communities and our youth. Please join me in sponsoring this important legislation. |
