Subject: | REQUEST FOR SPONSORS – REQUIRING DRIVERS TO CLEAR MOTOR VEHICLES OF DANGEROUS SNOW AND ICE ACCUMULATIONS |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation which would provide for a fine of not less than $25 nor more than $75 dollars for operating a motor vehicle whereby accumulated snow and ice on the motor vehicle may reasonably pose a threat to persons or property. Under current law, the operator of a motor vehicle is only subject to a fine if snow or ice dislodged from the operator’s motor vehicle causes death or serious bodily injury to another. I believe it would be more prudent to prohibit the operation of a motor vehicle that poses a threat to others prior to that threat resulting in a death or serious bodily injury. Additionally, my legislation would increase the maximum penalty for injuries or deaths caused by dislodged snow or ice from the current $1,000 to $1,500. I thank you in advance for joining me as a sponsor of this important legislation. |
