Subject: | Waiving Deed Transfer Fees for Impoverished Pennsylvanians |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a package of two bills that will exempt impoverished individuals from transfer fees and taxes incurred during property inheritance. Recently, a constituent approached me to discuss the difficulties low-income individuals face when attempting to have inherited property transferred into their name. Transferring the deed on such property is necessary for paying utility bills, but can incur costs that are often insurmountable for low-income families. We all know the pain of losing a close relative. Now imagine dealing with that pain, and the work of scheduling a funeral and meeting with an estate attorney that often follows, only to find that you are unable to cover the costs imposed on property left through a will. My package of bills would combat this problem by exempting individuals below the Federal poverty line from fees and taxes associated with deed transfers for inherited property. Help to alleviate the struggles faced by low-income citizens throughout the Commonwealth by co-sponsoring these important pieces of legislation. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation for the benefit of our most vulnerable citizens. If you have any questions regarding this legislation, please contact my office at (717) 772-9850. |
