Subject: | RESOLUTION: HONORING THE LIFE & ACHIEVEMENTS OF U.S. SENATOR JOHN MCCAIN |
I intend to introduce a resolution honoring the life and achievements of United Sates Senator John McCain and expressing condolences on his passing. John McCain was a graduate from the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis Maryland in 1958, completed his pilot training at Pensacola Florida, and was then deployed to the Gulf of Tonkin. During his time serving in the Vietnam War, was captured in Hanoi and became a prisoner of war for more than five(5) years. Upon his release and recovery, he continued his military career, raising to the rank of Captain. In 1981 Captain McCain retired from military service having earned numerous military decorations and awards, including the Silver Star Medal, two Legions of Merit, Distinguished Flying Cross, three Bronze Start Medals, two Purple Hearts, two Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medals and the Prisoner of War Medal. In 1982 Captain McCain decided to run for office to represent his beloved state of Arizona and was elected to the United States House of Representatives, and then in 1987 was elected to the United States Senate where he served until his death. Please join me in honoring the life and achievements of United States Senator John McCain as a war hero and dedicated public servant and expressing condolences on his passing.
