Subject: Proposed Resolution - Recognizing Elizabethtown College

I soon plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing Elizabethtown College for their continued commitment to student success. In 2015, the Association of American Colleges & Universities selected eight colleges from across the United States, including Elizabethtown, to participate in their Signature Learning Experience Initiative. The goal of this initiative was to research and develop curriculum which would increase student learning and teach students the skills necessary to be successful after graduation.

At Elizabethtown College, students must complete two Signature Learning Experiences (SLE) as part of their graduation requirement. These SLE included: supervised research, cross-cultural experience or exchange (study abroad), internship or practicum, community-based learning, and a capstone course, project or developmental portfolio. The facility and staff at the College worked to develop programs that focus on student-faculty interaction, time on task and involvement with diverse perspectives.

For its work on this initiative, Elizabethtown College was recognized for embedding meaningful, real-world learning opportunities for all students into its curriculum. Elizabethtown College is now recognized as a national model for “signature work.” Articles authored by Elizabethtown faculty regarding their experiences, project descriptions and results were published in the Spring 2018 edition of American Colleges & Universities Peer Review and can be found online here: https://www.aacu.org/peerreview/2018/Spring.

Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution.
