Subject: | Contracting with the State Police for Local Coverage |
I am re-introducing legislation to allow municipalities to contract with the Pennsylvania State Police for police coverage. This legislation allows a municipality without it's own police force to enter into a contractual arrangement for state trooper services in exchange for compensation. Payment would be based on labor and benefit costs incurred by the State Police. Revenue generated through these contracts would be deposited into a restricted revenue account and solely used for the specific services provided for in the service agreement. All state troopers assigned pursuant to these agreements would not be included in PSP’s authorized complement. The legislation was SB 600 of last session and co-sponsors included Senators Greenleaf, Vulakovich, Tartaglione, Stefano, Costa, White, Hutchinson, and Scarnati. |
