Subject: | "Domestic Violence Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania (October 2017) |
I plan to introduce a resolution designating October 2017 as “Domestic Violence Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. This resolution encourages all Pennsylvanians to learn more about the causes, signs, preventions, and treatment for domestic violence. For over forty years, the Pennsylvania Coalition against Domestic Violence’s local domestic violence centers provide shelter, legal assistance, counseling and children’s services to more than 90,000 victims per year, helping them find safety, obtain justice and build new lives free of abuse. At the national level, data reports show that on average, 24 people per minute are victims of rape, physical violence or stalking by an intimate partner in the United States. Over a course of a year, that equals more than 12 million women and men. Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution. |
