Subject: | Hydrocephlaus Awareness Month |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a Resolution recognizing September 2017 as “Hydrocephalus Awareness Month” in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. Hydrocephalus is a condition in which an abnormal accumulation of fluid in the cerebral ventricles causes enlargement of the skull and compression of the brain, destroying much of the neural tissue. Hydrocephalus can affect individuals of every age, from in utero to the elderly. There is no medical therapy to treat hydrocephalus, and the only effective treatments are surgical. Nearly 40,000 hydrocephalus operations are performed annually. Please join me in cosponsoring this resolution to raise awareness of this condition throughout the Commonwealth. |
