Subject: | A Resolution designating February 7, 2018 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan on introducing a Resolution designating February 7, 2018 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. Representative Wheatley will be offering a House version of the same resolution. “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” began in 2000 to assist efforts to decrease and ultimately eradicate HIV/AIDS in the African-American community, the community most affected by HIV/AIDS. According to the Center for Disease Control (CDC), African-Americans accounted for 44% of all new HIV infections while comprising 12% of the United States population. African-American males are seven times more likely to die from HIV/AIDS than non-Hispanic males and African-American women are fifteen times more likely to die from HIV/AIDS than non-Hispanic women. I hope you will join me in sponsoring this worthy Resolution to designate February 7, 2018 as “National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day” in Pennsylvania. |
Introduced as SR273
