Subject: | Resolution - May 2018 as Better Hearing Month |
In the near future, I intend to reintroduce a resolution designating May 2018 as “Better Hearing Month” in Pennsylvania. I invite you to join me as a co-sponsor in support of this effort. This resolution's intent is to recognize the importance of educating the public, and spreading further awareness about having regular hearing screenings. Optimum performance and health of the human body is improved by the ability of a person to understand communication, and be aware of sounds within his or her environment. People with hearing loss have been known to exhibit an increased incidence of other health issues, such as early onset dementia, depression, anxiety or difficulties with job performance. Amplifying one’s hearing can lead to a more productive life as a result of being able to hear and understand others. Damage to hair cells in the cochlea can cause permanent hearing problems, which may be treated by methods such as the use of hearing aids. Such aids help to increase a person's participation in an abundance of activities. This is a reintroduction of SR 121 of 2017. |
