Subject: | Atrhrthrogryposis Multiplex Awareness Day |
I will be introducing a resolution recognizing June 30 as Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita Awareness Day, and hope you will consider co-sponsoring it to increase awareness of this challenging condition. Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita(AMC) is a prenatally developing condition that appears in about 1 in 3,000 births, and is caused by a variety of conditions or syndromes .There are nearly 400 distinct types of AMC that are recognized, all of which are characterized by severe or permanently restricted motion in at least three joints in two separate parts of the body. These can be in any joint: ankles, knees, hips, fingers, wrists, elbows and spine. AMC is not curable, and extreme cases can shorten lives, but it is treatable though physical, occupational and speech therapies and surgical intervention. I hope you will join in helping increase awareness of this challenging and commonly misunderstood condition. |
