Subject: | Designating the 2024-25 "PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I will introduce a resolution to designate the weeks of October 6-12, 2024, January 12-18, 2025, and April 6-12, 2025, as "PIAA Officials Appreciation Week” in Pennsylvania. The three designated weeks take place in the respective Fall, Winter and Spring sports seasons that high school students participate in throughout our Commonwealth. PIAA officials play a vital role in the athletic experience for student-athletes, coaches and fans alike. Their responsibilities extend far beyond simply enforcing the rules of the game; they help promote fair play, safety, and sportsmanship. By ensuring that competitions are conducted fairly, officials create an environment where young athletes can thrive, learn important life skills, and develop a passion for the sport. The impact of PIAA officials on student-athletes is profound. They help foster a sense of respect and accountability, teaching athletes the value of teamwork and perseverance. By maintaining a level playing field, officials empower young athletes to focus on personal growth, resilience, and character development. This guidance not only shapes their sports experience but also influences their lives beyond the field. The work of PIAA officials is often underappreciated, yet it is essential for the success of athletic programs. They are the unsung heroes who dedicate countless hours to preparation, training, and travel, often balancing these commitments with full-time jobs. Having “PIAA Officials Appreciation Weeks” helps bring awareness in our communities so that officials know how thankful we are for them and the work they do. Having a game, especially where the rules are followed, would not be possible without them. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to acknowledge and thank our PIAA officials who maintain order and the safety of our student-athletes on fields, courts and other athletic facilities throughout our Commonwealth. |
