Subject: | National Mentoring Month |
Mentoring is a proven and effective way for caring, responsible adults to provide adolescents with guidance and direction across many facets of their lives. Mentors can make a profound difference in the development and future of their mentees and as such, I invite you to join me in designating the month of January 2019 as “National Mentoring Month” in Pennsylvania. In addition to being trusted friends and allies, mentors often have beneficial and long-term effects on adolescents. Research has shown that quality mentoring can increase school attendance and academic engagement, decrease adolescent substance abuse, improve social skills, and increase a student’s chances of continuing onto higher education. These positive and complementary benefits can allow adolescents to achieve more positive outcomes in school, the workplace, and their communities. Please join me in recognizing these incredible mentors and raising public awareness about their mission to help young boys and girls reach their fullest potential. Thank you for your consideration. |
