Subject: | Clarifying the Rights of Parents - Free Range Parenting |
Parents have a fundamental right to determine how to best foster self-sufficiency and independence in their young children. To ensure that parents are able to maintain this right, I will be introducing legislation to further clarify parental discretion in raising a child. Utah recently passed a law (Free Range Parenting) affirming that it is not a crime for parents to allow their children who display maturity and good judgement to independently engage in everyday activities. We should also do the same in Pennsylvania because currently many parents fear prosecution, investigation, and intervention simply because they allow their children to participate in these activities, such as travel independently to school, explore a playground on their own, or stay in the car while their parent makes a quick visit into a convenience store. This fundamental right is necessary to protect Pennsylvania parents as they try to raise happy, independent, and self-sufficient children. Therefore, please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation to ensure that all parents have the freedom to decide how to best care for their children. |
