Subject: Community Service In Lieu of Vehicle Code Fines and Costs
 
During these challenging economic times, it has become difficult for individuals to pay fines and costs imposed under the Vehicle Code. While I believe that individuals must be penalized for violating established laws, I also understand that each person has a unique financial situation and may not be in a situation to pay these penalties.

Therefore I am proposing legislation to authorize the courts to impose community service for Vehicle Code violations in lieu of payment of up to 50 percent of the imposed fines and costs.

Please join me in ensuring that individuals who are financially struggling are provided with an alternative to paying fines for Vehicle Code violations.
