MEMORANDUM

Posted: January 4, 2019 11:58 AM
From: Representative Thomas P. Murt
To: All House members
Subject: Blue Alert System (Prior HB 755)

I will be reintroducing legislation that will amend the Pennsylvania Amber Alert System Law to establish a Blue Alert System in the Commonwealth. A Blue Alert utilizes the technologies employed by the Amber Alert to notify the public of critical information when a law enforcement officer is killed, suffers serious bodily injury, or is missing while in the line of duty and the suspect, who is considered to pose an imminent threat to the public, is still at large.

It is intended to not only alert the public about dangerous or violent suspects who pose a threat to public safety, but also to solicit the public’s assistance in the speedy apprehension of the suspect and bring them to justice. Blue Alert systems are currently implemented in 27 states.

I hope you will join me in putting this valuable tool in place that will protect police officers and ultimately make Pennsylvania a safer place to live. Please consider cosponsoring this legislation to provide important and timely public alert system and safety measure to protect both our law enforcement personnel and citizens.
