Subject: | A Resolution Urging Congress to Pass the Maketplace Fairness Act |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a concurrent resolution urging Congress to pass the Marketplace Fairness Act during the 116th Congress. The Marketplace Fairness Act would establish a fair system for the collection of existing taxes owed to state and local governments, and passed the Senate in 2013 before being stalled in the Committee on the Judiciary in the United States House of Representatives. Despite efforts made by the Department of Revenue to clarify the law regarding sales tax collection in 2011 and 2012, taxes owed on online sales are still not being properly remitted. By urging Congress to pass this act, we will hopefully be one step closer to collecting existing taxes to help solve ongoing budget constraints in our Commonwealth. This resolution was formerly introduced as HR389 in the 2017-18 Legislative Session and included the following members: PASHINSKI, THOMAS, SCHLOSSBERG, CALTAGIRONE AND READSHAW. Please join me in sponsoring this important resolution. |
