MEMORANDUM

Subject: Preventing Harassment and Discrimination by Lobbyists

The #MeToo and Time’s Up movements have exposed incidents of discrimination and harassment in state governments throughout the country. Unfortunately, Pennsylvania has been no exception. As we reform the legislature’s policies and procedures, it is important to remember that these behaviors are not limited to elected officials and legislative staffers. We must also ensure that the rules apply to lobbyists.

My bill will hold lobbyists accountable for their actions. Lobbyists completing the registration process will be required to receive discrimination and harassment training. They will also be prohibited from engaging in discriminatory or harassing behavior.

Everyone deserves a safe workplace and the hardworking employees of this legislature are no exception. Therefore, I ask that you join me in this effort to ensure that our state capitol remains committed to the peoples’ work and free from discrimination and harassment.

Introduced as HB1054
